Physical properties of titanium
Titanium is metallic and ductile. Sound travels at a rate of 5,090 m/s. The main characteristics of titanium are low density, high mechanical strength and easy processing.
The new titanium alloy has good heat resistance and can be used for a long time at 600℃ or higher temperature.
The low temperature resistance of titanium alloys is good. The strength of titanium alloys such as TA7 (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn), TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) and Ti-2.5Zr-1.5Mo increases with the decrease of temperature, but the plasticity changes little. It maintains good ductility and toughness at -196-253℃ to avoid cold brittleness of metal. It is an ideal material for low temperature containers, storage tanks and other equipment.
The damping resistance of titanium metal is strong. After mechanical vibration and electrical vibration, compared with steel and copper metal, its vibration attenuation time is the longest. Using this property of titanium can be used as tuning fork, vibrating element of ultrasonic mill in medicine and vibrating film of high quality sound speaker.
Titanium is an important alloying element in steel and alloys, but its specific strength is the first among metals. The melting point is 1668℃, the latent heat of melting is 3.7-5.0 kcal/gram atom, the boiling point is 3260±20℃, the latent heat of vaporization is 102.5-112.5 kcal/gram atom, the critical temperature is 4350℃, the critical pressure is 1130 atmosphere. Titanium has poor thermal and electrical conductivity, approximately or slightly lower than stainless steel. Titanium has superconductivity, and the critical temperature of superconductivity of pure titanium is 0.38-0.4K. At 25℃, the heat capacity of titanium is 0.126 CAL/gram atom · degree, the enthalpy is 1149 CAL/gram atom and the entropy is 7.33 CAL/gram atom · degree.
